Step By Step Saturday with Glitz Design

Good morning and happy December! With the holiday season in full swing, I thought I'd share some ideas in card-aking for my step-by-step assignment today over at the Glitz blog. Let me show you how to create this quick and easy Christmas card!

1. Start by inking your card base. I used a cream cardstock base.

2.  Cut and distress a piece of the Banner paper and adhere it with the burlap side up. I normally don’t measure, just cut a quarter of an inch smaller than the card.

3.  Next, cut and distress a smaller piece of the same paper, this time, let the burgundy side show.

4.  Add one more layer of Santa pattern paper.

5.  Cut a strip of the Banner paper and punch one side of it, then adhere on the bottom of your card.

6.  Tuck a piece of ribbon on the left side of your card. My ribbon happens to coordinate beautifully with the Banner paper and it also has a gold trim.

1.  Finish with a piece of burlap, an element from the Whatnots pack, and some flowers.

I also decided to add a couple of Giant Rhinestones. Here's a closer look...

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Have fun creating holiday cards and projects!

Fall Beauty

Hello there! I hope you're all having a fantastic fall season. Though Thanksgiving has passed, and we're gearing up for Christmas, you may still be wanting to create some family and 'thankful' pages for your album. I was excited to look though my Glitz stash to find items that would remind me of the beautiful colors we see in nature this time of the year.

My first layout was created using mostly papers from the Joyeux Noel collection (not just for Christmas, this collection is soooo versatile!) and a couple of floral picks I found in the clearance section of my local craft store.

The vibrant green color in the Floral and Stripe papers worked really well with the floral pick. Since I don't store my layouts in page protectors, I'm really not concerned about the page being too bulky, but if you are, choose a pick without berries and pinecones. That is one easy way to make the supplies you already have fit any theme! Here's a closer look...

For my second layout, I wanted to scrap one of my favorite photos of my children. The warm yellow and neutral grey tones in the Yours Truly collection were the perfect backdrop for my picture.

I chose to journal right on the pattern paper. I find that I'm more likely to record my thoughts if I don't fuss too much about it with tags and hidden tabs.

That's it for today! I hope I've inspired you to use your Glitz products in non-traditional ways to scrap any seasonal theme.

Glitz Cashmere Dame

Hello again crafty friends! I'm back to share a couple of layouts I created with the stunning Cashmere Dame collection. This is definitely one of my favorite releases, the colors are just so great and the designs and patterns are as fun as its name! To show the versatility of this collection, I created a Halloween layout.

Both of my kids are still pretty young and they normally go for cute costumes, so I always find it contradictory to scrap their fun Halloween photos using super scary supplies, enter the amazing Honeycomb paper for the traditional touch of black, from there, I just went with red and blue to coordinate with their super heroes photos.

As you can see, I added lots of texture with modeling paste, love that stuff!

My second layout is totally different. This time I combined the red gingham paper with the blue stripes for a soft, feminine look. The banners and pops of yellow add the fun, childish factor.

The white doilies were sprayed with a home-made mist to let them blend a little.

I hope you found inspiration today. Thanks so much for your visit!

Beautiful Neutrals with Glitz Design

Hello there! I'm back to share my projects of the month and my first one is a layout using the beautiful Happy Travels collection. I pulled the neutral colors in this collection to scrap a photo of my kids waiting at the airport terminal during a recent vacation. I was so proud at how well behaved they were, those wait times can be really difficult!

I layered pattern paper and doilies to add depth to my page. I also tucked in small crochet doilies thoughout my page along with stickers and transparencies from the collection. Here's a closer look...

I have been having fun lately creating off-the-page projects lately and decided to make a home decor item for my second project. Again, using neutral colors in the French Kiss and Pretty In Pink collections, I made this wall hanging of our family name. I thought it would look great in our entryway!

I used five pieces of heavy weight chipboard as a base and jumprings to conect them together. The colors were just perfect and go really well with the rest of my house. To keep my wall hanging from getting to frilly for a home decor piece, I kept things simple by repeating the design in each panel. This project was hard to photograph while hanging on the wall so I took it outside to give you a close-up of each panel...

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you found some inspiration :) Enjoy the rest of the week!

Pretty In Pink

Hello there, Jolaine here! While I wait to play with the gorgeous new releases, I thought I'd share with you a couple of creations with Pretty In Pink, one of my favorite Glitz collections.

I created this layout using a photo of my daughter I recently took while on vacation. Love how the pink polka dot paper balance out the otherwise vintage and grungy browns.

To add a fun element to my page, I punched a few banners and placed them on my layout. I also included a few sprinkles of French Kiss embellishments. That's what I like aobut Glitz Design, all of the collections work very well together. Here's a closer look...

For my next project, I created a wall hanging. As you know, Glitz is well known for having inspirational quotes in their stamps and stickers and I was inspired by the empowering message in one of the title stickers.

Thanks so much for your visit today! Have a happy scrappy time :)

Quick and Easy

Hello everyone!  I know we're all heard of 'the lazy days of summer' but if you're anything like me, these are the days when we are doing soooo many things to keed our kids entertained and catch up with chores in the house as well as the outdoors. So today, I have quick and easy page that can be done under one hour, that's right, under one hour!!

It normally takes me a couple of days and a total of about four hours to do a page so I wanted to share with you my shortcuts to get your craft on even when time is short.

Here's how I saved time:
  • Since the papers are already distressed, I skipped inking the edges.
  • I also like to use border punches on my pages but lining up the punched designs takes too long so I opted to punch only the corners on my background paper.
  • I also saved time by using a 4x6 photo which is bigger than the 3.5x5 that I normally prefer but the bigger photo needs less embellishing and layering to make your page look 'finished'
  • Stick to a single paper collection so that all the papers coordinate without having to think too much about it. Here you can see that the papers in the French Kiss collection work very nicely together.
  • Add detail with a doily! Doilies are already very intricate and they don't need anything done to them!

That's all from me today! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find my tips helpful to save some time and still get creative!

Hugs,
Jolaine

Glitz Design Has Gone Digital!!!

Hello again! Jolaine here with a very special post. I'm not a digi girl but when I got the digital kits from Glitz I just knew I had to give it a go! Now, go easy on me, this is my first digital page and I'm not a Photoshop expert :)

My first impression... SUPER easy!!!! I normally use Photoshop Elements to edit my photos and turns out, PSE is perfect for digi scrapping too! It was just a matter of layering different papers and elements and this page came together in no time, I think I could get used to this!

Glitz digital collections are available for purchase at JessicaSprague.com. Besides layouts, these would be great for cards, inviations (the Hoopla collection would be perfect!) and stationary. You could also just print out digital elements and use them in a traditional way for a hybrid layout! The digital kits would also be great to design Christmas cards, the possibilities are endless!

As you can see, I created a summer page in conjuntion with our Blog theme of the month, Summer Fun! Remember, the challenge runs all month long, so join in on the fun!

Thanks so much for your visit today. I hope you're all having a wonderful summer!
