January Main Kit Reveal

This month's Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook is just perfect for the cold season and snowy days. I love all the different colors and embellishments in this kit featuring Fancy Pants Winterland.

Rosy Cheeks. My first LO with this kit uses lots of distressed layers in unusual colors for winter.

I just recently purchased this snowflake punch by Martha Stewart and I love it, it's a must have!

The kit includes a few wooden doilies my Maya Road and those are fun to alter. Here I chose to paint one and ink the edges.

Winterland. This next page has a totally different color palette. I just adore the blue and white color combo with a hint of tan.

Delight. I know not everyone lives in a place where they get snow so I decided to create an everyday page to show how this kit can be used to fit any theme. I fussy cut all of the flowes and tucked them around the ripped paper to create this design.

This awesome chipboard frame included in the kit is by Leaky Shed. To create this look, I painted and inked it, then applied a coat of Rock Candy Crackle paint.

Chill Out. I have never created a clear layout so when I saw the Hambly Screen Prints transparency included in the kit, I decided to use it as the base of my page. I really like the result. If you decide to try this, I recommend adding a piece of pattern paper to provide some stability to your layout.

Here's another one of those wooden doilies. Though it's hard to tell from the picture, I covered the entire thing with glitter after painting it white.

I just know you'll love this kit, the DT did an amazing job with! Pop over to the MSC gallery for additional inspiration.

Thanks so much for joining me today, my LE kit creations will be up soon! Have a wonderful weekend!

Coordinates Collections Party Time Reveal and Farewell

At Coordinates Collections, each new month brings a new kit and a new reveal. This reveal will be my last. After much thought and consideration, I decided to step down from my DT position at CC. Changes can be scary but can also be the right thing too. This was a really difficult decision.  I have truly loved being a part of the team at Coordinates Collections.

With that said, I was lucky to have the Party Time kit be my last. This kit includes fun Fancy Pants and Jillibean Soup products and were just what I needed to scrap some birthday photos of my little guy's first birthday.

My first layout features a photo we took during Dylan's birthday party last year. That was a pretty hectic day and we weren't able to get great photos but I really liked this particular shot. Because it was such a special ocassion, I made sure to include handwritten journaling, which I rarely do!

To keep things simple, for my second layout, I used the same border punches and supplies. This made my pages come toghether incredibly fast. Here he is on the actual day of his first birthday enjoying a cake and lots of love.

And lastly, I have a card made with some scraps. As you can see I only used the Fancy Pants papers, my favorites. I still have all of the Jillibean Soup papers left to make another layout! The flower you see here was made with the Maya Road pleaded ribbon included in the kit. That ribbon is so fabulous and versatile, I want it in every color now!

To see what the other Design Team members created with this and the other kit of the month, visit the Kit Ideas page at CC. Thanks so much for coming to visit today.  I do hope you enjoy what's left of the weekend and get some time to get crafty!

Hugs,
Jolaine

Coordinates Collections Song Birds Kit

Hello scrappy friends! I'm excited to share with you my projects for the Song Birds kit over at Coordinates Collections. It features ultra cute papers and embellishments by Fancy Pants and We R Memory keepers.

For my first layout, I cut one of the pattern papers into a 9 inch circle using my Cricut machine. I then used my Martha Stewart doily lace border punch to cut strips of paper and make a double border. I really like how this turned out!

I did a lot of fussy cutting in order to use these vines as embellishments here. The little birds were adhered with pop dots and covered in Rock Candy Stickles. I also played a little with paint. To get this effect, simply dilute a small amount of paint and flick your paint brush over the surface you're working on.

The sentiment came from a border strip I cut into pieces and inked. The stitches are made by poking holes with a paper piercer and connecting the dots with a brown marker. I don't know how to sew but I'm determined to learn!

For my second layout, I decided to use two photos, haven't done that in a while! Don't you just love that white and blue ledger paper?! So cute! I combined it with the red patter paper to coordinate with my daughter's dress. As a design accent, I used a doily as a stencil. I cut the small yellow hearts out of one of the borders and used my Cricut to cut the red ones, then I covered everything with Glossy Accents and adhered them with pop dots as well.

Here are a couple of close ups:

For my last project, I altered one of those dollar mailboxes from Target. Using Modge Podge, I adhered a strip of paper around and cut around the hearts to make a border for the sides. The plastic charms included in the cute were darling so I had to use them in this project! I hooked it onto a jump ring and dangled it from the knot under the tulle bow.

Inside the mailbox, I put Valentine's Day socks and treats for my daughter. That's going to be her present on Vday!

I also made a video about this project, check it out by clicking here. And if you want to see what the other DT gals created for this month's kit, check out the Coordinates Collections website.

A Couple of LOs and a Tutorial

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I'd like to share a couple of LOs I created this past week. As soon as I saw the new Jack and Jill papers by Prima, I knew I had to scrap a photo of my kids. For the large circle in the background, I distressed a doily and layered it with pattern paper and Prima pearl trim. The little boy and little girl were cut out of the designer paper and mounted on pop dots. I titled it Hermanitos (siblings).

Love these Gallery Roses by Prima with the newspaper print!

The next LO was made using the gorgeous papers from the Road Show collection by Fancy Pants. The big die cut paper was created using the Gypsy Wanderings Cricut cartridge. I played up the beautiful rust and turquoise colors of the floral design to build my page and choose my embellishments. I really wanted to make this page very girly hence the femenine accents such as the dressform, the cameo and the crochet trim. Read on to see how I created the faux lace border. Enjoy!

Don't you just love that cameo? It came from a hair tie I got at the dollar store! To add dimension to the crochet trim, I scrunched it up in random places and adhered it using hot glue.

Paper Lace Border Tutorial

Punch along the edge of your paper using an edge punch. This technique will work with different border punches but I used Marth Stewart Doily Lace border punch (my favorite).

To add texture, ink your punched border with a complementary color.

Use a trimmer to cut out your punched border allowing an inch and a half of space.

Cut up your border at every scallop.

Run your tape runner along the reverse side of the die cut shape you'd like to use, then simply adhere all the scallops upside down.

Hope you give it a try, this technique is fun and gives your die cut papers just enough difinition. Have a great week!
